About
Cuoio Belcaro has been making sole-leather in Ponte a Egola, a Tuscan tannery village a half-hour west of Florence, since 1928. Four generations of the Belcaro family. They are one of fewer than 12 active workshops in Italy that hold the Cuoio di Toscana consortium certification, which requires the full 9-month pit-tan cycle using oak-bark and chestnut tannins — no shortcuts, no synthetic accelerants.
The output is thick, dense, slow-tanned sole-leather for shoemakers, saddlers, harness-makers, and the kind of architectural-grade leatherwork (high-end interiors, hand-crafted desk pads) where the patina has to last 30 years. Their hides come from Tuscan and Piedmontese bovine sources, slaughtered for meat first, with the hide as a by-product — never industrial-grade scale.
They onboarded to BLUN · Listing in March 2026, after a referral from the Cuoio di Toscana consortium itself. The export desk speaks Italian and English; correspondence in German is doable but slower. They will only quote to verified buyers, which means a brief through BLUN · Listing gets through where a cold email wouldn't.
